Car strikes, kills pedestrian trying to cross highway in Beech Island

A pedestrian who was crossing a highway in Beech Island died after being struck by a car Saturday night. The wreck happened at 7:59 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, on Sand Bar Ferry Road, which is also S.C. Highway 28, near its intersection with Swamp Road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Coroner releases name of Beech Island pedestrian killed in Saturday wreck

The pedestrian, Vernon E. Mundy of Beech Island, died at the scene, Coroner Darryl Ables said. The wreck happened at 7:59 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 on Sandbar Ferry Road near its intersection with Swamp Road.

One person killed, another hospitalized in crash on South Carolina road, authorities say

Vernon E. Mundy, a 69-year-old Beech Island resident, was the person who died in the accident, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.
