A 75-year-old Towson-area woman died Monday evening after a three-vehicle crash on Dulaney Valley Road, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. The victim, identified as Maureen Hahn, was driving a 2018 Toyota RAV4 at the time of the collision, which occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Dulaney Valley Road and Hampton Lane in Towson, Maryland. According to investigators, a 2006 Ford F-250 traveling northbound on Dulaney Valley Road struck a 2019 Lexus ES 350 before continuing into Hahn's Toyota RAV4. Emergency responders transported Hahn to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries. The Baltimore County Police Department Crash Team has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the sequence of events and contributing causes behind the fatal collision. Location and Infrastructure
Dulaney Valley Road is a major north-south corridor in Towson, an unincorporated community and the county seat of Baltimore County, Maryland. The roadway carries significant commuter and commercial traffic, connecting central Towson to communities farther north, including Cockeysville and Hunt Valley. The intersection with Hampton Lane sits near the historic Hampton National Historic Site and within a mixed residential and commercial corridor, where multiple access points, turning movements, and moderate-to-heavy traffic volumes are common, particularly during evening rush hour. Like many multi-lane arterial roads in the Baltimore metropolitan area, this stretch of Dulaney Valley Road is regulated by standard traffic signals and posted speed limits. Multi-vehicle collisions involving northbound through-traffic are not uncommon at high-volume signalized intersections, especially during peak travel periods when visibility, following distance, and driver attentiveness become critical safety factors.
Legal Rights and Considerations
Under Maryland law, families of individuals killed in traffic collisions may pursue a wrongful death claim, which generally must be filed within three years of the date of death, pursuant to the Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Code. Maryland is one of a small number of jurisdictions that follows a pure contributory negligence standard, meaning a claimant found even minimally at fault may be barred from recovering damages, making a thorough factual investigation of liability especially important in multi-vehicle crashes like this one. Potential compensation in a successful claim may include funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred prior to death, loss of financial support, and loss of companionship for surviving family members. Separately, a survival action may allow the deceased's estate to recover damages for pain and suffering between the time of injury and death. Insurance considerations often involve coordination among multiple drivers' liability policies given the number of vehicles involved.
