5-year-old survives car crash that kills mom and sister

A stoic 5-year-old kept his cool last weekend and managed to call for help after the tragic car accident that killed his mother and, later, his big sister. Little Kadyn Depasquale did all he could on Sunday night to alert his father and the police to the horrible accident, enabling authorities in Oneida, N.Y., to find them and airlift 10-year-old Kelsey Caswell-Young to a hospital. “This child is a trooper,” Kadyn’s uncle, James Zophy, who is the police chief of nearby Canastota, told syracuse.com. The boy and his family were driving home after a fun day at Oneida Lake, when Ellen Caswell’s Jeep Wrangler swerved across the road, hit a utility pole and rolled onto the driver’s side in an open field.
