Caleb Smith, 13, killed; Devin Harris, 19, and Justice Harris, 17, injured in single-car crash into Mulberry Branch Creek in Shallotte, North Carolina

Caleb Smith, 13, died in the 4 a.m. wreck on Bridger Road in Shallotte, according to a town news release issued Thursday. Two other teens were thrown from the vehicle, according to 911 dispatch logs. Shallotte officers, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Department did a phenomenal job. Jessica Swencki, spokesperson for Brunswick County Schools, confirms that Justice Harris is a freshman at West Brunswick High School. Officers along with deputies from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and Shallotte firemen quickly retrieved the three passengers from the vehicle, however one of the passengers, Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a church spokesman, the family has asked the church to not make any statements in regards to Caleb's death as they deal with this tragic accident.
