Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Dallas' Pleasant Grove neighborhood.

Dallas police responded to a major accident call just before 11 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Buckner Boulevard.

A pedestrian was killed late Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in southeast Dallas, according to Dallas police. The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Buckner Boulevard, when a vehicle struck a man who was walking in the area. Police said the driver fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving the victim without immediate assistance from the person responsible for the crash. Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead. As of this report, his identity has not been released by authorities, and next of kin have not yet been notified or have not authorized release of his name. Dallas police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Anyone with information about the vehicle involved or the driver is urged to contact Dallas police. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional details may be released as the department's Major Accident Investigation team continues its work.

Location and Infrastructure

South Buckner Boulevard is a major north-south thoroughfare in southeast Dallas, connecting neighborhoods near Interstate 30 and the South Buckner corridor to surrounding residential and commercial areas. The 4900 block sits in a mixed-use stretch that includes retail centers, apartment complexes, and residential streets, an area where pedestrian activity is common despite limited dedicated crossing infrastructure in some sections. Like many major Dallas arterial roads, Buckner Boulevard carries multiple lanes of traffic with higher posted speed limits, which can increase both the likelihood and severity of pedestrian-involved collisions, particularly at night when visibility is reduced. Nighttime pedestrian crashes on high-speed arterial roads are a recurring safety concern in Dallas, and this stretch of Buckner Boulevard has seen prior traffic incidents. Drivers and pedestrians alike are urged to exercise heightened caution in this corridor, especially during evening and overnight hours.

Legal Rights and Considerations

Under Texas law, drivers involved in a crash resulting in injury or death are legally required to remain at the scene, provide identifying information, and render reasonable assistance; failing to do so, as alleged here, may constitute a criminal offense under Texas Transportation Code Section 550.021. Family members of a pedestrian killed in such a crash may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which in Texas is generally subject to a two-year statute of limitations from the date of the incident. Potential compensation in such cases may include funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship, lost future earnings, and other damages recognized under Texas wrongful death statutes. Because the driver has not yet been identified, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may also become relevant depending on the outcome of the investigation. Those affected are encouraged to consult with a qualified attorney to understand their specific legal options.
