Fort Worth police say a Jeep traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the highway struck a car head-on. The car was carrying Randi Holshouser, her daughter Tyler Triplett, a child loved ones identify as Randi's granddaughter, and another male passenger.

Three people were killed and two others hospitalized following a wrong-way crash on State Highway 121 (Airport Freeway) in Fort Worth early Tuesday morning. According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to the scene near North Riverside Drive at approximately 1:20 a.m. after a Jeep traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes struck multiple vehicles.

Investigators say the Jeep first collided with a vehicle carrying three occupants, striking the rear driver's side after the occupants attempted to move out of the wrong-way driver's path. None of those three suffered major injuries. The Jeep then continued the wrong way before colliding head-on with a sedan carrying four people, including a child believed to be 10 or 11 years old. Two adult women in the sedan died at the scene. The sedan's adult male driver and the child passenger were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. The Jeep's driver was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identities of those killed once families have been notified. The Fort Worth Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate.

Location and Infrastructure

The crash occurred on State Highway 121, known locally as Airport Freeway, near its intersection with North Riverside Drive in Fort Worth. This stretch of highway is a major divided freeway corridor connecting central Fort Worth to Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport and surrounding communities, carrying significant overnight commercial and commuter traffic. Like many limited-access freeways, Airport Freeway separates opposing traffic flows by direction, meaning a wrong-way entry typically originates from a driver entering an exit ramp or crossing a median in the wrong direction. Wrong-way crashes on high-speed divided highways are statistically more likely to result in head-on collisions and severe injuries due to combined closing speeds. The North Riverside Drive interchange is a well-traveled access point in this part of Fort Worth, and the area includes standard freeway signage, lighting, and ramp markings intended to guide directional traffic flow.

Legal Rights and Considerations

Under Texas law, individuals injured in motor vehicle collisions—and the families of those killed—may be entitled to pursue compensation through civil claims. Texas follows a modified comparative fault rule, meaning a party found more than 50% responsible for a crash is generally barred from recovery, while others may recover damages reduced by their percentage of fault. Texas is an at-fault insurance state, so the liable driver's insurance coverage, including any applicable liability limits, is typically the first source of compensation considered. In cases involving a fatality, surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Texas generally imposes a two-year statute of limitations on personal injury and wrongful death claims, though exceptions can apply. Potential compensation may include medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and funeral or burial costs, depending on the circumstances. Individuals affected by this crash are encouraged to consult applicable state statutes for precise guidance, as outcomes depend on the specific facts of each case.
