Location and Infrastructure

Almeda Road is a significant north-south arterial corridor running through several Houston neighborhoods, connecting areas south of downtown to the Texas Medical Center vicinity and the Astrodome district. The stretch near Hepburn Street sits within a mixed-use urban environment characterized by a combination of residential, commercial, and institutional land uses. This section of Almeda Road carries notable daily traffic volumes as a key connector route, and its intersections can present navigational challenges for both motorists and motorcyclists due to varying lane configurations, driveway access points, and pedestrian activity. The Astrodome Area, anchored by NRG Park and its surrounding facilities, generates periodic surges in traffic during events. Road users in this corridor are subject to standard urban traffic control measures, including signalized intersections and posted speed limits typical of Houston city streets.

Legal Rights and Considerations

Under Texas law, surviving family members of a fatality victim may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim pursuant to the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 71. Additionally, a survival action may be filed on behalf of the deceased's estate. Texas follows a modified comparative fault rule, meaning recovery may be reduced proportionally if the decedent is found partially at fault, provided that fault does not exceed 50%. Texas has a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury and wrongful death claims, making timely action critical to preserving legal rights. Applicable insurance considerations may include the at-fault party's liability coverage, underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage, and any applicable personal injury protection (PIP) policies. Compensation in such cases may encompass medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, loss of financial support, and non-economic damages such as loss of companionship. Affected parties are encouraged to consult a licensed Texas attorney promptly.
