Teen moped rider dies after colliding with SUV in Kearns

Public safety dispatchers say the accident occurred at 11:16 p.m. near the intersection of 5600 West and 5600 South. Unified Police reported that the 18-year-old victim, whose name was being withheld while next of kin were notified, was not wearing a helmet when he collided with the SUV, which was making a left turn. The teen was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in extremely critical condition, and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.  

Man, 18, killed on scooter in Kearns accident

KEARNS — An 18-year-old man driving a motorized scooter was killed in a crash Monday night after police say an SUV turned in front of him. The scooter hit the passenger-side quarter-panel and part of the front bumper and went under the SUV, Bell said. The driver of the SUV claimed to have not seen the scooter, Bell said. After the investigation into the fatal accident was completed, the case will be turned over to the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office to be reviewed for possible charges. Landon Parker Hickman was driving north on 5600 West about 11:15 p.m. when a small SUV made a left turn onto 5655 South right in front of Parker, said Unified Police Lt.
