Two critical, one of them 'extremely,' in South Salt Lake crash

Two women were badly hurt after their minivan crashed Sunday onto the rail lines near the South Salt Lake viaduct. "Something happened between the two cars," and the minivan's driver lost control of the vehicle, said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. A minivan crashed through a guardrail and two fences before landing on its roof on the rail lines. The women, who are in their early 20s, were driving westbound on 3300 South when they neared the viaduct that goes over the rail lines at 250 West. A second vehicle was traveling west at the same time, about 5:30 a.m.

Two women hospitalized after car rolls from overpass onto tracks

SOUTH SALT LAKE '€” Two Murray women in their 20s were hospitalized in critical condition with injuries suffered during a rollover crash early Sunday. The two women were driving west on 3900 South when they encountered another vehicle on the overpass crossing I-15 just past 250 West, South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said. One woman was thrown from the driver's seat as the vehicle rolled, suffering potentially life-threatening injuries, Keller said. All lanes of traffic and the railroad tracks were clear and open Sunday afternoon. Police are unsure whether she was wearing a seat belt, Keller said.

Some improvement for women hurt in S. Salt Lake crash

Hopes for recovery were buoyed on Monday for two women who suffered extensive injuries in a weekend crash onto rail lines near a South Salt Lake viaduct. Sunday, the women were westbound on 3300 South when they neared the viaduct that goes over the rail lines at 250 West. South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said the driver of a minivan, a woman in her early-20s, remained in "extremely critical" condition, but doctors had reported "she was doing better than expected." The minivan's driver lost control, went through a guardrail and two fences, down an embankment, and rolled onto its roof on the Union Pacific tracks. A female passenger, also in her early-20s, also was critical, though stable.
